Here's your weekly reminder that load training (a.k.a. resistance training or strength training) isn't just a good way to tap into the body's innate capacity for building new tissue.
It's literally the only way to remodel deep joint structures like the meniscus or ligaments (yes, even into "old age").
Everything else - stretching, injections, acupuncture, chiropractic, massage, bodywork, etc. - can support load training and the overall goal of restoring function, but nothing can replace it.
That's not my opinion. That's exercise physiology 101.
The human body is designed to take load-bearing activity and, through the magic of mechanotransduction, convert it into biochemical signals that alter the gene expression of the tissues being stressed.
Translation: bearing weight forces your tissues to adapt and come back stronger.
Of course, the devil is in the details, which is why so many people (including your coach) spend years load training improperly and rack up more joint dysfunction than folks who never train.
That's not the fault of the exercise, though. It's user error, one that can only be corrected by learning how to load properly.
So what does proper loading look like if our goal is rebuilding busted joints?
